Short Story Rationale
This genre was a short story of An African Americans Family who just wanted to celebrate their anniversary at Coachella, a festival where people have fun and enjoy themselves. Instead of having a lovely vacation, they were wrongfully convicted of murdering a woman. I am choosing this story because it is what society is facing right now and I want it to have an emotional effect on people so they can use their voice to stand up for what is right. I want the audience to feel the same emotions they would feel as finishing a sad movie about minorities treated unequally. I chose a fictional story but the event in the story is nonfictional, a lot of African America and other minorities are experiencing racism every day and everywhere. I tried to connect it to “carnivalesque” by including the most popular event in California, the state where the death penalty is still being used. The event is Coachella it takes place every year around April and it is an event where people showcase their artistic skills for other people to enjoy and have fun. The audience will generally be everyone but mostly the people of California because we all need to come together and put an end to racial justice and let everyone be equal in society. It is mostly focused on the people of California for them to abolish the death penalty because the state is the highest for using the death penalty as a form of punishment. It is time for California to join the other states in America and abolished the death penalty because they have a choice to do so and they should act upon it. The death penalty should be extinct from the world, it affects a lot of innocent human beings, and no matter even if the person committed a crime death shouldn’t be a punishment, there are other ways No one just wakes up and be like ‘I have murder on my mind.” They are developed into a murderer’s mindset because of the environment they are in their upbringing, or either from child bullying or abuse. We should focus on the root of a convicted criminal before declaring they need death as a punishment. Prisons should be for reforming people, not killing them.
